Dr. Peter Gibson, Hand Surgeon

Peter Gibson, M.D.

Hand, Wrist and Elbow

Dr. Peter Gibson is a fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in Hand, Wrist and Elbow Surgery. He practices with Dr. Mark Mellinger and the expert team in the Hand Center at Northern Arizona Orthopaedics. He sees patients in both the Flagstaff Summit Center location and the Sedona clinic location.

Dr. Gibson treats simple and complex conditions, disorders and injuries associated with muscle, joint, bone nerve, tendon and soft tissue occurring in the upper extremity. In addition to advanced training in complex reconstruction procedures of the elbow, wrist and hand; he has a special interest in orthopaedic trauma, microvascular surgery and nerve repair. He also performs in-office hand procedures which allow for the patient to be wide-awake during a minimally invasive surgery without being in an operating room. This leading-edge surgical method ensures a faster recovery time, less pain and a better experience for patients.

The hands are a vital part of people’s lives in which every intricate detail provides functionality. Peter Gibson, MD, believes a multi-modality approach, i.e. collaboration with both therapists and primary care providers, allows for the most optimal solution to complex problems of the elbow, wrist and hand. A firm understanding of each patient’s unique needs, having conversations with their family, and discussing all the care options – both nonoperative and operative – allows for a great outcome.

Dr. Gibson grew up in the mountains of Colorado and is excited to get to live the mountain lifestyle again with his wife, Maggie, and three children. He enjoys traveling, golf basketball, and is looking forward to becoming heavily involved in community building and volunteer work in Flagstaff.
