Orthopaedic Surgeon, Foot and Ankle, Trauma

Chris Diefenbach, MD, is a fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon. He specializes n the diagnosis and care of problems of the bones, ligaments, muscles, tendons and soft tissue below the knee. He practices in the Foot and Ankle Center inside the Summit Center in Flagstaff and in our NAO Prescott Valley clinic. He is a team physician for NAU Athletics and Team Run Flagstaff.

Dr. Diefenbach finds his field to be a very rewarding line of medicine where he can care for arthritis, sports, traumatic, and complex reconstructive injuries of the foot and ankle area. He treats a variety of conditions in all patients, from newborns to the aging population, including an active population such as runners with over-use injuries, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, and shin splints. Those who experience arthritic changes in their ankle joints seek the care of Dr. Diefenbach. Many patients are not surgical candidates, therefore, Dr. Diefenbach helps them understand how to prevent injuries or exacerbation of their conditions through proper stretching and other therapies. Doing what is needed to gain the best outcome possible for his patients, is his top priority

“I believe in shared decision making, ensuring each patient (and their family members) completely understand their problem or condition, the treatments available to them, and their influence in which course of action to take with treatment. I will always individualize each care plan to help my patients reach their activity and quality-of-life goals,” says Diefenbach. “I treat each patient as though they are a member of my own family and consider it a privilege to provide my care to them.”

Patient Testimonials

”Chris was assigned to be my Ortho Physician. He looked at my injury and we discussed options and procedures. I felt like I knew so much more about what was occurring with the tissue and components of the injury after our discussion. Even though Chris was the smartest person in the room he didn't lord his knowledge over me or speak down to me. Thank you Dr. Diefenbach.“

A. from Page

”Dr. Diefenbach, I want to thank you for seeing me as a patient. During our two appointments, you provided me with really great information to help me make a decision about whether and when to have surgery on my right ankle. I’m grateful for your insight and for sharing research-based knowledge. I was able to speak with two other friends in the community who have had an ankle fusion and will move forward with physical therapy first, to help maintain the function I have currently. When I lose functionality, I look forward to having you as my surgeon.“
