As we slide into the 2015-2016 school year, sports physicals for our local athletes are complete. Volunteer physicians, physician assistants, physical therapists and support staff from Northern Arizona Orthopaedics (NAO), Flagstaff Bone and Joint (FBJ) and DeRosa Physical Therapy (DPT), provided low-cost physicals to a total of 321 student athletes; a record year!

Flagstaff Bone and Joint hosted their sports physicals event on Saturday, July 25 and Northern Arizona Orthopaedics offered theirs on Saturday, Aug. 1. The events were split to allow for convenience and flexibility with families’ summer plans.

Each athlete was charged only $10 and matched by either NAO or FBJ, two independent orthopaedic practices, that share a philanthropic initiative to donate to the athletic programs at local Flagstaff high schools. A total of $6,420 was given to Flagstaff High School, Coconino High School and Northland Preparatory Academy. The funds will support the schools’ athletic programs, including fees, training, travel, equipment, uniforms, and financial help for athletes who may be financially burdened by the general costs of playing their sport.

Many thanks to the numerous volunteers who devoted their weekends to ensuring our student athletes start their season off right; healthy and injury-free. This is just another way NAO, FBJ and DPT are collaborating through partnered events to enhance the musculoskeletal care provided in our community.
